Our Visit to Kenya – June 2024

As always, we tried to fit as much as possible into the limited time. This naturally included a visit to the Maasai Market for new souvenirs for our events and a joyful pool day with all the children, organized by our volunteers Christine and Robin. During a very detailed visit to the Shamba, we saw everything we had previously only seen on the planting plan and learned from team discussions. Of course, the floods did not leave our farm untouched; much of the harvest was lost, but thanks to the terrace planting, we got off relatively lightly. At least the river now carries plenty of water.

To our delight, the biodigester is running perfectly for MCC, the school, and the boarding school, meaning all water is actually being reused! And the second great joy is that we have a very reliable partner for our service contract in the company Phreatic Aqua Solutions. Now we hope to achieve the same success with them for the photovoltaic system.

We had extensive and intensive discussions with the headmaster and deputy head of the Academy of Maisha Mazuri, as well as with individual teachers, especially those teaching the three vocational subjects (home economics with its own bakery, agriculture, computer, and business). This also included planning for internships and special programs by our Internship Coordinator.

We are delighted about the expansion of our MCC team with Beatrice, the evening homework teacher. And as always, we enjoyed the intensive and direct conversations with all team members at MCC. It is a special privilege to work with our team.

For those wondering about the frequency of our visits, we can assure you that all our on-site visits to Kenya are not paid for by donations, but by the travelers themselves.
